The Dallas Cowboys have solidified their future by locking down one of the NFL’s brightest stars, wide receiver CeeDee Lamb, with a multiyear contract. The new deal, which the team officially announced on Monday, is worth $136 million over four years, according to reports from ESPN and NFL Network. This agreement positions Lamb as the second-highest-paid non-quarterback in NFL history, with a substantial $100 million guaranteed.
A Rewarding Outcome After a Tough Negotiation
Lamb, a three-time Pro Bowler, strategically held out of the entire training camp and all three preseason games, pushing for a new contract. His patience paid off as he secured a deal that extends his tenure with the Cowboys through the 2028 season. This new contract replaces the fifth-year option of his rookie deal, which he signed after being the 17th overall pick in the 2017 NFL Draft.
The negotiations between Lamb and the Cowboys were not without their challenges. Earlier in August, Cowboys owner and president Jerry Jones publicly stated that he felt “no urgency” to finalize a deal with Lamb, prompting a lighthearted yet pointed response from Lamb on social media. Despite the public tension, both sides reached an agreement, ensuring that one of the NFL’s top receivers remains in Dallas for the foreseeable future.
Lamb’s Stellar Performance with the Cowboys
Since joining the Cowboys, Lamb has proven himself to be an invaluable asset to the team. He has played in every game over the last four years, consistently delivering top-tier performances. Last season, Lamb set career highs with 135 receptions, 1,749 receiving yards, and 12 touchdowns—his receptions and yardage also set new team records. In Dallas’ sole postseason game last season, Lamb continued to shine, recording nine catches for 110 yards.
Over his career, Lamb has amassed 395 receptions for 5,145 yards and 32 touchdowns, establishing himself as one of the most reliable and dynamic wide receivers in the league.
What’s Next for the Cowboys?
With Lamb’s contract secured, the Cowboys will likely shift their focus to quarterback Dak Prescott, who is entering the final year of his contract. Unlike Lamb, Prescott is ineligible to be franchise-tagged, meaning that if the two sides do not reach an agreement, Prescott could become a free agent. The outcome of these negotiations will be crucial as the Cowboys prepare for their season opener on September 8 against the Cleveland Browns.
