Jazz Chisholm Returns to Yankees Lineup After Quick Recovery from UCL Sprain

Jazz Chisholm Jr. has made a swift and impressive return to the New York Yankees lineup after being activated from the 10-day injured list (IL) on Friday, following a UCL sprain in his left elbow. Despite initial concerns, Chisholm defied expectations and returned to action on the first day he was eligible, showing no signs of being hampered by his recent injury.

A Remarkable Recovery: Chisholm Back in Action

When Chisholm injured his left elbow on August 12 during a game against the Chicago White Sox, it seemed like a significant setback for the Yankees’ newly acquired star. However, the 26-year-old infielder remained optimistic, predicting a quick recovery. His confidence proved justified as he rejoined the Yankees just ten days later, starting at third base and batting fifth against the Colorado Rockies.

Yankees manager Aaron Boone shared his thoughts on Chisholm’s quick return, expressing a mix of surprise and confidence. “I guess a little bit [surprised], but I know he wanted to play the Friday [in Detroit] after the day off when we put him on the IL,” Boone said. “So I know he was champing at the bit there. And then as you’ve seen him ramp up this week… watching him on the field, like, ‘Yeah, he’s showing you this is really a non-issue for him.’”

Clearing the Hurdles: A Non-Issue Recovery

Chisholm’s return was expedited by the fact that the injury was to his non-throwing elbow, and it was his top arm in his swing as a left-handed hitter. Swinging a bat was the primary challenge, and Chisholm passed those tests easily over the past week. He did not require any additional imaging to be cleared for his return, which Boone emphasized was a sign that Chisholm was fully ready to play without restrictions.

“He definitely wanted to [come back], but he was showing all the signs that we needed to see to give him the go-ahead to get back out there,” Boone noted. “Feel really good about where he’s at. Just watching him move around and swing, looks really good.”

Yankees’ Conservative Approach: An Exception for Chisholm

The Yankees typically err on the side of caution when it comes to players returning from injuries, often extending recovery timelines to ensure full health. However, Chisholm’s situation was an exception. His rapid recovery and eagerness to return to the field were met with approval from the Yankees’ coaching staff, who were satisfied with his readiness.

The real test for Chisholm will be how his elbow responds to the demands of full-game action. Boone acknowledged that while the early signs are positive, they will monitor Chisholm closely to ensure there are no setbacks. Chisholm himself remains confident, aiming to avoid any need for surgery, even in the offseason, unless his elbow condition worsens.

A Promising Start: Chisholm’s Impact Since Joining the Yankees

Chisholm has been a valuable asset to the Yankees since his acquisition from the Miami Marlins just days before the trade deadline. In the 14 games he has played for New York, he has been on fire, posting a .316 batting average, a 1.062 OPS, and seven home runs. His return to the lineup brings a boost to the Yankees as they gear up for the final stretch of the regular season.

As the Yankees continue their push for the playoffs, all eyes will be on Chisholm to see if he can maintain his performance and stay healthy. With his determination and skill, he is poised to make a significant impact for the Yankees in the critical weeks ahead.
