FRISCO, TX — The Dallas Cowboys’ star wide receiver CeeDee Lamb is eagerly anticipating a new contract for Dak Prescott, and it seems the feeling is mutual among all parties involved. Jerry Jones, the owner and general manager of the Dallas Cowboys, has made it crystal clear that there is no intention of breaking up this powerful trio anytime soon.

As of August 28th, however, a new deal for Prescott has yet to be finalized. Jones addressed the ongoing negotiations on Wednesday before the Cowboys’ final training camp practice at The Star in Frisco.

“That hasn’t changed,” Jones remarked. “Our focus for the next 10 days to two weeks is on the opening game. That’s the priority. Lamb’s deal is done, and Dak is here. We’ve taken care of the significant matters to ensure the season is in full swing, so nothing major has changed.”

Jones’ statement aims to provide clarity, especially given the speculation that a deadline for Prescott’s new deal might be set for September 8th, the day of the Cowboys’ season opener. Contrary to popular belief, Jones confirmed that this is not the case.

“There’s no indication of any of that,” Jones clarified. “It’s just like it’s been.”

In simpler terms, the Cowboys are committed to negotiating with Prescott until a contract is agreed upon, even if these discussions extend into and throughout the 2024 season. A deal could be struck at any moment over the coming months, although it could also happen in the next few days.

While there may not be an immediate sense of urgency, the situation becomes more pressing with each passing day as the Cowboys approach March 2025, when the option to franchise tag Prescott will no longer be available.

For now, it’s a waiting game, but one filled with continuous activity behind the scenes.
